sept and oct are the seasons for new festivities since rainfall. rains pollution is discarded and the houses are decorated with new colours. so the dirtiness and mosquitoes etc are cleared after the rains are over.
then come the festival of Lord Ganesh. different size of statues are installed in each mohalla(colony) and morning and evening, 'aarti'(pooja)is done by the people thronged. and 'prasad' (sweets etc)will be distributed.
this festival will go on 10 days to worship Lord Ganesh,(in mythology,he is 'vighnahaari'), means that he will save his disciples from troubles in life.
on 10th day all statues, through vehicles, are taken to the lake,river or big ponds for immersion.
then after 15 days the Durga/Kali festival starts by installing their statues at different places in city. and daily pooja is done. the best tableau is given prize in cash and trophy.
the most affected population during these days is of children of each caste and creed who enjoys the festivities with great enthusiasm. loudspeakers yells religious songs throught day and upto 10 in night due to exam fever etc.
the other affected person is businessmen, who multiplies their profits be sale of cloth,grocery,sweets and several items. the children love baloons and sword and sheeth and bow & arrows made of light wooden pieces decorated by coloured gel papers to get them a shiny look.
as usual on Dussehra, the effigy of Ravan is burnt and second day the statues of Durga and Kali are taken for immerson in lakes,rivers, big ponds so they are not degraded. in water they are safe and melt away. Durga and Kali(IN MYTHOLIGY) said to be the Goddesses, who saved their disciples and people in general, from the clutches of the then existing demons, whose nature was to torture people and kill them.
nov and dec are also the months of festival of different kinds/of different peoples. the above narration is about the festivals celebrated by the Hindus in general.
